Women in Sports
Although in an ideal world, athletes of all genders would be viewed by popular audiences, the media, and others first and foremost for their athletic accomplishments, this is often not the case. Women athletes, like women in many professions, are often subject to a series of double binds. They can be presented, assessed, and judged based not only on their performance on the field or in the arena, but for their performance of gender. This month, several students explored the challenges, benefits and gender gaps women face in athletics.
