Oliva Box — Senior Thesis Research Published

Senior year, I collaborated with Dr. Nat Cleavitt from Hubbard Brook Research Forest to study the fungal communities associated with Beech Bark Disease (BBD) in the forest. As a part of this project, I got to do some field work in Hubbard Brook with Nat, and collected more samples in Hamilton’s forests too. Then using the microscopes and imaging facilities I was able to study and identify the fungal communities that I collected.

Five years later, my work was incorporated alongside other studies on beech bark disease from Hubbard Brook. It was great to see my work published alongside other exciting new work on BBD. While BBD is likely here to stay in New England, it is interesting to see this work come together so we can better understand the disease
