Hey John Myles here (Hamilton ’24) headed into my sophomore year. This summer I’m headed up to Utqiagvik, Alaska (the northernmost settlement in the US!) to participate in a long-term research project with the USFWS. I will be doing point counts and monitoring nests of Arctic Shorebirds, including breeding Dunlins, Buff-Breasted Sandpipers, Baird’s Sandpipers and others. I will also be observing predator and prey species populations to assess the efficacy of Arctic Fox population control on nest success rate.
Next semester I hope to keep prepping some specimens and building Hamilton’s bird collection! Thank you so much to Professor Townsend for all the support!
