Sitter: Henry Austen Clark (1815-1906) was a member of the Hamilton College class of 1838 and the third cousin of Aaron Clark, donor of the Clark Prize, the most prestigious public speaking honor given on the Hill. Clark’s son graduated from Hamilton in 1891.1
Artist: This portrait was completed in 1837 by J. Parks.1 Little else is known about the artist of this portrait.
The Portrait at Hamilton: The oil painting was donated to Hamilton in 1972 by John B. Westcott. It is currently located in the foyer of the Azel Backus House.
