Drawn Up Music

Music drifts through the air into our heads throughout our lives.  But, when do we stop to just listen?  You and I will be experiencing different ways of listening to music with these audio instructions.  This week, the activity is to draw as we listen.

Looking at Language

In this lesson, students will consider their relationship with language, exploring the languages they do and do not use in their daily communication. Would the world be better with one, universal language? What do we gain from having so many different languages?

Great Expectations

This lesson will focus on the idea of expectations in Stoicism and negative visualization, the idea of contemplating a range of potential outcomes that include the worst-case scenarios in order to promote resilience when an unfavorable situation occurs. We will explore the methods used in order to practice this as well as why people do.

Intonation

In this lesson, students learn about and explore their use of intonation— the way we speak. The attached PowerPoint takes students through a series of activities, teaching them about the relationship between pitch and expression. Why do we speak to our pets any differently than we speak to our parents?

Who Would You Save?

A thought experiment is presented to explore your morals and values. If a boat was sinking and the lifeboat couldn’t save everybody, who would you save and who would you sacrifice? Do your morals and values change in different situations, especially in a life or death situation?
